Machine Applications:

• Safety harness is a form of protective equipment designed to protect a person from injury or damage. Occupations that may involve the use of safety harnesses includes roofers, window washers, construction workers, crane operators, bridge painters, lineman, rock climbers, scaffolders, etc.

Machine Description/Features:

• The safety harness is an attachment between a stationery and non-stationery object and is usually fabricated from rope, cable or webbing and locking hardware.
• A fall-arrest system has multiple components, including two anchor points, a body belt or harness, and the lanyard. Safety harnesses have two connection points, one to the worker’s body and one to an anchor point. Connectors must be made from drop-forged steel and have a corrosion-resistant coating. The connection point for a safety harness must be at the centre of the wearer’s back. Lanyards may not be more than 6 feet long.

Machine Specifications:

• Effective safety harnesses and personal fall-arrest systems must be capable of supporting a minimum tensile strength of 5,000 pounds; check the manufacturer’s specification sheet to verify the tensile strength of the harness. The hooks and connection point devices must also be rated for a minimum tensile load of 5,000 pounds. Accordingly, anchor points for safety harnesses must also be capable of supporting a 5,000-pound load per employee attached.
• All safety harnesses have a life expectancy of 5 years.
